Broadband Network Capacity (285660) - UPDATE
Network Capacity (ADSL/20CN)
Posted on: Friday 30 October 2009, 17:08
This is an update to the announcement we made last week about performance problems and speed issues for some customers during peak times when the network is busy.
This week we have been continuing to work towards fixing the problems that customers have been reporting.
On Monday we made some changes to the configuration of some of our traffic management switches and on Tuesday we changed the software that we're using for our caching DNS platform. Both of these changes have had a positive impact on the network however we have had to remain in 'Plan B' configuration throughout the week due to a delay in the activation of a new central pipe of bandwidth. This was originally scheduled for the start of the week however unforeseen delays have meant that some customers have continued to experience performance and speed problems in the evening.
Fortunately, we were able to bring the new pipe online earlier today and have already lit two full 155Mbps segments. Combined with the network balancing earlier in the afternoon we're now in a pretty good place for the weekend.
We've switched back to 'Plan A' configuration and are going to monitor things closely over the weekend. Those who were experiencing problems should find that things are much better over the coming days.
We would like to say sorry to those who have been affected by these problems and will provide another update early next week.
Kind Regards,
Bob Pullen
